The homeowner managed the kitchen at Agnews Developmental Center for 37 years before her retirement. Her deceased husband was in the USMC in the 1950’s. They raised 6 children. The multigenerational family living in the home consists of the homeowner, 2 sons and a daughter-in-law.

This homeowner, age 85, is incredibly kind. She has lived with her husband in their home for over 50 years where they raised their 6 children. She is originally from Columbia, and moved to the United States as a young woman. She is extremely proud of her many children and grandchildren.

This homeowner is a 75 year old woman living alone in a senior mobile home park. She is divorced with 5 children, 2 of whom live in San Jose; her other three children live out of state. Those in the area visit her daily to check up on her due to her multiple disabilities including severe arthritis, 2 knee replacements, edema, and diabetes. When she was employed, she worked as a care-giver manager, and as an individual care-giver. She loves gardening, dancing and cooking.

This homeowner, age 76, has had a very full life. Born in New York and raised in Hawaii, she eventually landed in California due to her ex-husband’s job in the Armed Services. They divorced soon after settling in San Jose, however, and the homeowner raised their two children as a single parent. The homeowner also enjoys a very active lifestyle for her age. She volunteers for Second Harvest Bank, and has only missed 2 days in the past three years.

These homeowners, ages 73 and 63, have lived in this house for over 30 years. They raised three daughters and a son, and are now the legal guardians of their two young granddaughters due to personal issues with their son-in-law. The homeowners decided to spend their retirement money on creating an addition to the home. However, they were taken advantage of by their contractor, leaving them with an unfinished home.

She was highly successful working at a number of window covering companies over the years, including her own, while simultaneously raising her son as a single mother. Her son, age 44, lives with her as he has suffered from cognitive delays since birth. The homeowner and her son make a perfect team, and feel blessed to have each other in their lives.

This homeowner, age 71, has lived in this home for the past 18 years. She worked at Santa Clara County Housing Authority for many years, and upon retirement she began taking care of her ex-husband who suffered from alcoholism and dementia. While taking care of her husband, however, she suffered a fall that resulted in several broken ribs. She was later diagnosed with COPD and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, which left her hospitalized for over a month and requires her to be on oxygen at all times.

This homeowner has lived in the home her whole life and intends to never move. She loves her home and the memory of her parents it provides.

These homeowners, ages 80 and 83, are a very pleasant couple. They have been married for 59 years, and have been in the Bay Area for 50. The husband joined the Air Force in the 1950s, and later became an Episcopal minister. The wife was a registered nurse for many years before retirement. She had open heart surgery in 2003, and suffered a stroke as a complication which initially left her paralyzed.

The family moved to San Jose in the late 1970s, and the homeowner worked at a linen company until her recent retirement. Upon retiring, she began taking care of her elderly mother full-time, who suffers from dementia.

She previously worked for the Sheriff’s Office and Department of Corrections, but chose to retire to help her daughter. Her daughter has a part time job, so the homeowner has been taking care of the children during summer vacation. All 4 have some learning disability, either ADHD or autism.

The homeowner is a delightful, sharp 84 year old widow who has lived in this single-wide mobile home for 28 years, since it was new. She has been retired for “many years”. Before she retired, she worked at the California Center for Employment Training in the financial aid office. Her husband – a US Marine sergeant who served in Korea - passed away in 1979. She has lived alone since, but is starting to have some mobility issues.

This homeowner, age 63, has a tough exterior and a heart of gold! He’s an older Harley Davidson man and was raised in the somewhat tough atmosphere of Detroit. In the 1970’s and 80’s he worked as a test track specialist mechanic. He loved working on concept cars until he had a devastating accident leaving him with residual brain damage and cracked vertebra in his neck.

This homeowner, age 72, has been living in her home for nearly 10 years. The homeowner had two daughters with her husband prior to their divorce in the early 1970s, though the couple soon remarried and had a son. They later divorced again, permanently in 1975. The homeowner also spent the majority of her adult life caring for her older brother. As he suffers from developmental disabilities, she knew from a young age that she would have to care for him later in life; he has lived with the homeowner for the past 22 years.

She has had a number of surgeries on her shoulders and knees, though she tries to remain active through physical therapy and exercise. The homeowner lives with her daughter who was recently laid-off from her job. The homeowner and her daughter collect items from neighbors and friends to donate to a number of non-profit organizations.

These homeowners have been living in their home for the past 9 years. The husband was the previous handyman for the mobile home park, and has helped Rebuilding Together with various projects throughout the park in the past. He has since suffered 4 strokes and 2 heart attacks, and is almost entirely paralyzed on his left side. The wife is very personable and affectionate; she participates in many activities throughout the park, and helps care for her neighbors in need.

This is a very warm and friendly 77 year old woman from Argentina. She has lived in the United States since the early 1960’s and has never returned to her original Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, she has outlived two husbands and is a little lonely living alone now. She greatly enjoys when her daughters and grandchildren visit.

Her mobility is declining due to cartilage loss in both hips, and movement can be very painful for her at times. Surgery to repair her hips has also been put off due to her having diabetes, and she is currently undergoing physical therapy to regain strength.

These homeowners are very kind and involved with their community. They both volunteer multiple days a week amongst different organizations. They work extensively with the Brown Bag Program that provides free bags of groceries to park residents in need. They both work on procuring the donated food items, storing them correctly and delivering to residents.
