We’re taking a look at all the ways we celebrated our 30th anniversary in 2021

Last year was an incredible year for RTSV: all year long, we celebrated our 30th anniversary as we continued to make waves in the life-changing work that the community looks to us to accomplish. In addition to completing life changing repairs all year, we made the year about celebrating what we can accomplish together in different ways.

30 Years Of Impact

The first way that RTSV began celebrating our 30th anniversary was by collecting and reporting decades worth of our statistics to track our impact over a span of 30 years. What we found was truly remarkable: since 1991, RTSV has served 4,500 families, completed 50,000 safety and critical repairs, and worked with 40,000 volunteers who banded together to give 400,000 hours of their time to affect real change in our community.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us so that we can continue making a lasting change here in the Silicon Valley.

The Change Order

At the beginning of 2021, RTSV launched the Change Order, a small but mighty group of our most dedicated supporters who are also committed to helping our most vulnerable neighbors in need.  Members of the Change Order make automated donations of any size, every month. These monthly gifts empower RTSV to plan ahead year-round, and provide critical and safety repairs across Santa Clara County.

Change Order members can take pride in knowing the direct impact to the community that their support creates as well as being awarded 2 tickets to our Annual Fundraiser, being the first to receive National Rebuilding Day shirts and swag, and recognition on our webpage.

We believe everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home:

  • Housing is healthcare. Our home repair work targets significant safety and health hazards based on the Eight Principles of Healthy Homes. Through critical home repairs and home modifications in underserved communities, we address the connection between health and housing.
  • Our work prevents homelessness. Many of our neighbors face difficult decisions every day like whether to prioritize life saving medications over basic home repairs that overtime can cascade into unsafe living environments for themselves or their family members, forced evictions or even condemnations. By providing no cost repairs, RTSV prevents worst case scenarios and preserves the integrity of our communities.
  • We transform our neighborhoods in need. Community revitalization happens through intentional partnerships with community leaders and members to determine needs and provide necessary improvements. RTSV starts with neighbors helping neighbors to sustain safe, healthy and thriving communities.

RTSV Store

Featuring clothing with our classic logo as well as our 30th-anniversary logo, the RTSV Store was launched so that our [Re]Builders were able to show everyone that they are dedicated to the belief of safe homes and communities for everyone by proudly wearing any of the different styles we have available.

The RTSV Store is constantly being updated with different designs and items any [Re]Builder would love! A portion of each purchase also goes to helping the neighbors in need in our community. Look stylish and support RTSV? Yes, please!

Three Successful Rebuilding Days

Back in Spring 2021, we had split Rebuilding Day into 2 weekends to maintain safe social distancing as people had only started getting vaccinated. Thanks to all of you for following our safety protocols, we were able to complete projects at 15 different sites. For Fall Rebuilding Day, we continued following the same covid safety protocols and completed work on 17 projects from Gilroy to Milpitas.

Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley normally offers two Rebuilding Day home repair blitz events, pulling together hundreds of volunteers and dozens of sponsors to repair and rehabilitate nonprofit facilities and the homes of low-income homeowners. In April and October, our Rebuilding Day program provides major and minor repairs and renovations resulting in life-changing improvements for the homeowners and organizations served. As houses are transformed, neighborhoods and communities find hope and pride restored.

To celebrate our 30th anniversary with our volunteers and homeowners on our Rebuilding Days, we debuted our Limited Edition 30th Anniversary T-Shirt! Each project site looked like a sea of bright RTSV green and we couldn’t be happier.

Paint The Town, Green

Once again, we decided on holding Paint The Town virtually because of the uncertainty of the pandemic, but this time we added a new twist: Green! Green is the traditional color associated with celebrating a 30th anniversary and at RTSV, green is the color of our [Re]Builders because it symbolizes our work in bringing new growth to our communities by supporting them with safety and critical repairs. It was a no brainer to add the color green to make it Paint The Town, Green!

Our program showcased our life-changing mission, celebrated our community, featured a live Fund-A-Need, and was hosted by our honorary chairs, Andy and Joselle Kryder. The night of the event, we also introduced you to Carol and Robert in the video we premiered and thanks to all of your support at the event, we were able to raise over $136,000!

The Triumphant Return of Monthly Volunteering

After we successfully executed our Spring Rebuilding Days, our volunteers were itching to come back for more and we felt we could bring monthly volunteering back safely. We brought Safe at Home back, a program designed by our Construction Services team to work alongside groups of volunteers at the homes of our neighbors in need.

Central to our vision of a safe and healthy home for everyone, Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley’s Safe at Home program addresses home repair and maintenance issues that may otherwise present a safety risk or that limit access to or within the home. Prior to all repairs, a qualified staff member will perform an onsite needs-based assessment to identify potential home repair and maintenance tasks primarily focused on, but not limited to:

  • Fall Prevention
  • Accessibility/Mobility
  • Aging In Place
  • Weatherization/Energy Efficiency
  • Home & Fire Safety

We are so thankful to our Safe at Home volunteers and are inspired by their passion to continue supporting us and giving us their time month after month. Our Safe At Home Green Team volunteers assist our technicians on Thursday afternoons in minor home repair projects either on-site or out of our warehouse. RTSV’s Give Back Day

At the end of 2021, RTSV Staff banded together for one last Team Build: RTSV’s Give Back Day! This was a way for RTSV Staff to come together and make a difference while also celebrating RTSV’s 30th anniversary one more time. Staff members worked diligently to give Julie’s home in Morgan Hill a fresh coat of paint right before the holidays.

Julie is a 63-year-old homeowner who has proudly been living independently. After working at IBM for 20 years, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a cosmetologist. She went back to school and became an instructor, teaching others in the cosmetology industry for the past 20 years. She enjoys walking although she suffers from arthritis and prioritizes her health as much as she can.

RTSV had already completed critical repairs inside Julie’s home prior to giving her home a fresh coat of paint. We are so proud of our RTSV team members who gave their time to give back and show our community how seriously we take our mission: repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives.

What a year we’ve had! Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is so grateful to each of you who helped us celebrate by participating in each of these events. We are beyond excited to see what 2022 will hold and we can’t wait to accomplish more together!

At Rebuilding Together – Silicon Valley, we believe that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home, so we help provide critical home repairs to over 600 clients per year, including to those who are aging in place. We rely on generous donations to continue our essential work and the positive impact we have in these communities.

You can help us make a difference in these communities by donating to our cause today or you can learn more information about what your donations help us accomplish by watching Robert’s story!
